We have an opportunity for aMechatronics/Robotics Software Engineer within the Advanced Production Systems group of Boeing Research & Technology Australia team based 100% on site in Port Melbourne,
This role supports both commercial and defence applications.
In this role you will be designing new Mechatronic / Robotics and Software systems, incorporating the latest technologies, building your designs and then delivering them to a production environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform technology investigations, develop concepts for robotic/mechatronic systems, draft product requirements and build prototypes
- Implement your designs into production domestically and internationally
- Undertake a wide variety of tasks in various aspects of mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, robotics, controls, software and systems integration
- Develop, test and iterate prototypes in a lab environment
- Undertake early stage design, requirements development, specification definition and cost estimating
- Developing innovative solutions to technical problems through application of engineering and scientific fundamentals
- Share results in the form of presentations, reports and patents
- Work according to established occupational, health and safety guidelines
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
To be successful in this role, you will have experience developing and delivering mechatronic/robotic systems and software to customers into production environments.
- Degree qualification in mechanical, industrial, aerospace, or mechatronics engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
- Mechanical/mechanism design, robotic integration, and manufacturing process knowledge
- ROS and ROS2 experience
- Extensive Linux proficiency
- Proficient in Gitlab, Git version control, and CI/CD pipelines
- Expertise in robotic motion planning, navigation, and controls (PLCs, vision systems, sensors, motor controllers)
- Advanced CAD skills (SolidWorks, Catia) and experience in rapid prototyping
- Hardware/software integration experience (C++/Python) and hands-on experience building mechanical/electrical/software systems
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, management, and fellow engineers
- Self-sufficiency in work, with the ability to work independently

- Ability to address technical and business challenges through effective design solutions
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a deep understanding of assemblies and mechanisms
- Capability to interpret technical drawings and Bill of Materials (BOMs)
- Effective communication skills through sketches, block diagrams, flow charts, and technical writing
- In-depth understanding of mechatronic systems, assembly processes, and component fabrication
Additional Information:
This position is classified as Engineer/Scientist 2A. The successful candidate will be required to complete a 3 month probationary period.
