About the Role
As a Media Advisor, you'll play a crucial role in crafting engaging stories in a fast-paced environment. Collaborating closely with journalists and stakeholders, you'll deliver compelling content on operational and policy issues, ensuring Victorians stay informed. To excel in this role, you'll need experience in media issues management or journalism, along with strong writing, relationship-building, and critical thinking skills. You'll be adept at conveying complex information clearly and accurately under pressure.
Additionally, you'll produce accurate media materials to tight deadlines, contribute to media projects and strategies, and provide sound advice to senior managers. Your proactive approach will identify media opportunities and address emerging issues, while building strong relationships with key contacts. From organising media events to crafting social media content, your versatility will drive our communication efforts.
Be part of our on-call media roster, always ensuring effective engagement. This role involves travel within Victoria and working outside regular hours.

Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in media issues management, including the preparation of communications materials to respond to media enquiries
- Proven ability to proactively identify opportunities to deliver communications to promote an organisation’s objectives and achievements through a broad range of channels
- Excellent written and verbal skills and experience in presenting information that will be subject to public scrutiny.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate in a clear and concise manner
- Demonstrated flair and creativity, with the ability to think beyond traditional communication strategies.
- Good time management skills
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, including providing leadership support to other members of the team as required
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
- An appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in journalism, public relations, communications or a similar discipline.
Role specific requirements
- A willingness and ability to travel to locations within metropolitan and regional Victoria is required.
- A willingness and ability to work out of hours, including participating in an on-call media roster is required.
