About the Opportunity:
As part of a one-year contract for parental cover, the Media and Communications Manager will spearhead all JackJumpers communications and public relations efforts. You'll play a pivotal role in strategy development, driving forward the growth and enhancement of the JackJumpers brand.
Key Responsibilities:
Media and Communications
- Develop, implement, and deliver annual communications plans to elevate JackJumpers' profile and storytelling
- Establish and nurture collaborative partnerships with key media, agencies, and press influencers
- Prepare and distribute media releases, articles, and content to secure positive media coverage
- Foster close ties between the JackJumpers, NBL, and the wider basketball community for cohesive messaging
- Drive year-round media attention, promoting club activities, memberships, and partnerships
- Create engaging owned media content aligned with the JackJumpers brand, collaborating with Brand, Design, and Content leads
- Coordinate media conferences, training visits, post-game requirements, and game night social media activities
- Manage media appearances for staff, players, and coaches, ensuring preparedness and positive representation
- Oversee all Media and communication content across training, games, partner, and community events, supporting brand integrity and partner relationships
- Implement measurement systems to evaluate the effectiveness of Media and Communications strategies
- Ensure quality control of all released information to maintain the JackJumpers' reputation
- Provide regular reports to the Head of Design, Brand & Content, executive team, and Board
- Possess excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, along with computer design proficiency
- Demonstrate hands-on experience in developing and executing communication plans and campaigns
- Exercise sound judgment, initiative, adaptability, and resilience in communications activities
- Maintain a proactive and adaptable "can-do" attitude within a team environment
- Work autonomously and collaboratively to deliver a premium brand experience
- Exhibit familiarity with the sporting entertainment industry, particularly in basketball
About the Ideal Candidate:
- A degree in professional communications, media, journalism or public relations is desirable but not essential
- Ideally you will have worked as a public relations or communications specialist or have experience working as a government, political or media adviser, or in a public relations’ consultancy or communications specialist within a business, company or organisation, public or private
- Excellent written oral and presentation skills as well as computer design skills for presentations
- Hands-on experience of writing and implementing communication plans and campaigns, including briefs, media releases, opinion pieces, advice and more
- Excellent judgement, initiative, adaptability and resilience enabling personal performance and productivity levels to be maintained in challenging situations
- Be adaptable, with a “can do” attitude and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to ensure a premium brand experience
- Familiarity of working within sporting entertainment (desirable).
- Interest in basketball and understanding of terminology (highly desirable)
- Has a current driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Tasmanian working with vulnerable people check
