About Ngaanyatjarra Health Service

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service (NHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled health service which is part of the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group. We provide care to approximately 2,000 Ngaanyatjarra People living in communities across the vast Ngaanyatjarra Lands in remote Western Australia, near the Northern Territory and South Australian borders. We are governed by an Indigenous Board of Directors and are AGPAL accredited.

About the Position

NHS has the opportunity for a Medical Officer to work in the clinics in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, following the Primary Health Care approach and providing services in a culturally appropriate manner that supports Yarnangu.

What is required:

  • Consult, lead and work within nurse-led clinical teams to provide face-to-face and telehealth consultations and coordinate care for people across the Ngaanyatjarra communities
  • Collaborate with other Ngaanyatjarra Health Service staff in coordination and delivery of health programmes in child and maternal health, chronic disease, sexual health and mental health
  • Collaborate with other services to provide best practice emergency, acute and chronic disease care, particularly the Royal Flying Doctor Service and visiting specialist teams
  • Facilitate the improvement of Aboriginal Health with an emphasis on health promotion, infectious and lifestyle related diseases
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and propose new initiatives in program delivery to meet accreditation requirements and ensure best practice.

What you bring:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working as a Medical Officer in a comparable environment
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to work across a multi-disciplinary workforce comprising people from language and culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, the principles of Primary Health Care and legislation governing work practice
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and manage change in a complex remote practice setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to quality improvement, evidence-based practice, research, education and professional development
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, patient information and data management systems
  • Willingness to drive /fly regularly between remote community clinics (includes driving on unsealed roads and flying in small aircraft)
  • Current open WA Drivers Licence (manual), a National Police Clearance, WA Working with Children Clearance and Australian Working Rights.
