Summary:
Medical Technicians are responsible for performing diagnostic tests and analysing patient samples to provide accurate diagnoses. They collect patient samples, conduct medical tests, analyse results, and provide information to physicians and other healthcare workers. They also maintain patient records and assist in the development of new diagnostic testing procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Collect patient samples such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.
- Perform a variety of diagnostic tests including laboratory analysis, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and other clinical tests.
- Analyse test results and provide accurate diagnoses.
- Ensure that all testing equipment is functioning properly and that testing protocols are followed.
- Maintain comprehensive patient records and ensure that they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Provide accurate and clear interpretations of results to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new diagnostic testing procedures.
- Educate patients about procedures and the importance of accurate testing.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide patient care.
Qualifications:
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in medical technology or a related field.
- Certification by a recognized accrediting agency such as ASCP certification.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures, testing equipment, and diagnostic techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
