About Us:
Australian Mentoring Services (AMS) is an energetic values-based organisation supporting people with a psychosocial disability. We support people in building their skills and capabilities they need to achieve their goals and gain independence. AMS aims to integrate people into the community, reaching goals and re-connecting people with their culture and families.
About Your Role:
As our Mentor, you will provide an individualistic model of support. When assisting people, you will be a social role model and be a part of them achieving their goals. With unconditional positive regard, you will mentor people to maintain and improve their independence through social learning of daily living skills, social and recreational skills and education and employment.
You will work as part of a team, this maybe highly autonomous or with other mentors, to respect the individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination and decision-making of all people.
This position is located in the Parramatta and Western Sydney area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing quality support to assist our psychosocial participants, this may occur for people that live in an AMS operated accommodation program, in the person’s home or in the community.
- Providing unconditional positive regard
- Providing social role modelling to support the capacity building of daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, meal planning, budgeting, etc.
- Engaging in social and recreational activities to build the capacity to develop relationships and social networks.
- Implementing Individual Support Plans and Behaviour Support Plans
- Ability to work flexible hours, with a willingness to work within a 24/7 rotating roster.
About You:
You are non-judgemental, empathetic and a promoter for change. With your qualifications and/or experience in Mental Health/Disability/Youth Work or in a similar industry, you understand the challenges that our participants face. You need to be resilient and to be able celebrate the small successes. You will have well developed verbal and written communication skills and have exceptional interpersonal skills including conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills.
