Modify and shape metal products by bolting, welding, and riveting them. Use a variety of metal working tools to cut and manipulate metal into designed structures. The fabricator must have knowledge in working with several types of metals. Proficiency in the use of different machinery and fabrication techniques is prerequisite, and attention to detail is key, to ensure that items are made to exact specifications.
Main Tasks:
- Studies and evaluates blueprints/drawings to ascertain job requirements.
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Sets up and operates welding machines and cutting equipment.
- Performs thermal cutting and grinding.
- Assembles parts and structures by lining up and joining them by hand, machine, or by using overhead cranes.
- Repairs products by dismantling and replacing defective assemblies.
- Checks work using rule, square, and straightedge.
- Maintains and cleans machinery and job area.
- Communicates with the team for job status updates.
- Regularly updating job knowledge by participating in training opportunities.
Qualifications:
Minimum required qualification for a Metal Fabricator is an AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or an AQF Certificate IV. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification
