Seeking a competent Molecular Scientist to join our team on a part time permanent basis. This role is accountable for assisting in developing, implementing and providing a high-quality, cost-effective molecular microbiology pathology service to clients. The scientist in the Infectious Diseases Laboratory reports to the Senior Molecular Scientist, Infectious Diseases Laboratory. The hours for this role are 38hrs per fortnight.

Independently resolve laboratory issues within assigned responsibilities, especially on evening shifts, Saturdays and Sundays.
Key competencies (role-specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including positively contributing to the team culture of a flexible molecular laboratory under the supervision of more senior practitioners, forming collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders and an aptitude for conflict prevention, negotiation and resolution.
- Knowledge, expertise, skills and performance of routine maintenance and complex scientific testing and project duties in a molecular microbiology pathology laboratory with infrequent supervision while prioritising workloads for optimal outcomes under time constraints.
- Experience using computerised systems effectively, including LIS, word processing and spreadsheet software, to receive clinical samples, perform data entry, oversee stock, conduct molecular laboratory testing with analysis and provide results and advice to stakeholders in a client-focused manner.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to acquire the skill) to identify, develop, implement and perform routine laboratory maintenance, quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA / ISO / NPAAC accreditation/certification.
- The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree qualification (or equivalent degree) in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology or related discipline.
- This position currently participates in the laboratory's shift roster and may work a combination of day, afternoon and evening shifts within each fortnight, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Change to a continuous shift roster may be required during periods of higher testing demand.
