About Us:
Located in an idyllic bushland setting in Belrose, Kamaroi Steiner School is a boutique primary school for children from kindergarten to year 6. Based on Steiner principles, we offer a nurturing environment to address the changing needs and capabilities of children at each stage of their development. Our curriculum and method of teaching enhances a deep and rounded learning, and incorporates a dedicated music and drama program
Commencing in Term 3, 2024 for 12 months, this position:
Supports Classes One to Six, delivering music curriculum, and a combined Class Five and Six choir as 40 minute weekly specialist lessons. In addition, the Music Teacher supports the school with music and singing for festivals and class plays. There is an additional music tutor coordinator aspect embedded in the role and teaching the orchestra which could be differentiated into two roles if the applicant does not have the skill set.
Key Relationships:
- Relationships of significance exist with teachers, administration staff, students, and their parents. Especially with class teachers and music tutors.
- The role holder is responsible to, and reports on all aspects of the role, to the Principal and leadership team.
Position
- Part-time – 22.5 hrs per week, or a 0.6 load (full time equivalent / FTE), worked across 4 days of the week, but this may change by mutual agreement.
- The role could also be re allocated to two smaller roles for the right applicants.
- Remuneration – will be commensurate to the qualifications and experience of the candidate, and in alignment with the Independent Schools NSW/ACT Standards Model (Teachers) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach curriculum music classes for Year 1 to Year 6
- Coordinate and conduct musical items at school-wide seasonal festivals, collaborating with music tutors and classroom teachers
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on music in plays and in the classroom
- Conduct Year 5 & 6 choir
- Conduct Year 4 – 6 orchestra
- Coordinate and manage music tutors and weekly co-curricular ensembles, including the semester music ensemble concert
- Manage the music budget, school instrument inventory, and hiring of tutors for a small string program
Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach in the NSW Education system
- Previous experience as a Music Teacher in a school setting
- Understanding of the Steiner curriculum and child development.
- Good communication skills and be willing to work as part of a vibrant team
- Ability to work enthusiastically with students individually and in groups with the aim to support and increase musical ability, musicality and a love for music and singing.
