About the Role:
The Naval Architect performs a technical role in both the asset department and projects as required, which includes:
- Performing stability assessments on barges, tugs and construction vessels, including producing Stability Booklets and addendums to existing stability booklets;
- Ensuring fleet compliance to survey requirements as mandated by Marine Orders, Navigation Act, NSCV, regulatory authority and Class at all times;
- Identifying floating plant potential non-compliances against Marine Orders, Acts, or Guidelines, and resolving survey standpoints with an Accredited Marine Surveyor (or AMSA);
- Preparing Statutory Plans for vessels complying to the requirements of the National Standards (NSCV), Class and / or Regulatory Authorities;
- Assisting PMs & PEs in assessment of marine lift studies, including preparation of detailed Lifting Plans and supporting calculations;
- Leading the design and development of engineering modifications, feasibility studies and technical investigations on floating plant and equipment;
- Collaborating with Project Managers & Project Engineers on conducting vessel feasibility studies during tendering and bidding for new projects;
- Preparing engineering and design drawings and calculations for stability and powering of vessels/structures;
- Developing Vessel Safety Management Systems, vessel specific Plant Risk Assessments and conducting safety workshops revolving around Marine Crewing and Operations;
- Overseeing quality control and ensure works are proceeding to specification/timelines;
- Liaising with clients, external contractors and professional bodies for project execution and/or tender preparation;
About you:
The role of Naval Architect is highly collaborative with both internal and external stakeholders requiring a high level of interpersonal skills. You are a pragmatic problem solver who can effectively prioritise and communicate with your team. In addition to this you:
- Have experience in Development and implementation of Safety Management Systems according to Marine Order 504
- Developed project management skills
- Experience in assessment and development of stability books
- Knowledge of Crane Barge Lifting Stability assessments
- Knowledge of relevant Marine Orders, Navigation Acts and Regulations
- Display integrity, respect and enthusiasm
- Display judgement and behaviour that is in line with company values
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Must pass a full pre-employment medical including functional capacity fitness evaluation and drug and alcohol screening
Qualifications & Software Essentials:
- Tertiary qualification in Naval Architecture
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the maritime industry
- Familiarity with USL and NSCV desirable but not essential
- MS Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, Calendar
- Auto-Hydro – Ship Stability Package or equivalent like MOSES, MAXSURF, etc.
- AutoCAD - 2D design & drafting
- Autodesk Inventor – 3D Modelling & NASTRAN FEA or equivalent FEA like Sesam, Ansys, etc.
- Construction White Card essential
- Current driver’s licence essential
