Job description

The NDIS Aboriginal Access & Community Linkage Worker will provide assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members who require assistance to access the NDIS and/or require assistance to link to other local services including and especially Aboriginal services.

Other functions of the role include Community Engagement and education, individual capacity building and coaching. Ongoing support will be provided to the Aboriginal Access Worker through establishment of working groups and direct assistance. The preferred applicant will bane required to work across all MDAS sites in Mildura and Swan Hill/Kerang. 

 
Key Selection Criteria:
• Experience in the human services or related sector including individual and community development work.
• Prior experience working with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Prior experience in the Mental Health industry or community-based organisation.
• Experience in the delivery of community development, education and capacity building initiatives, with a particular emphasis on working with indigenous children, families and communities.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate the activities involvement of community stakeholders in the development, planning, delivery and evaluation of service.
• Experience consulting and working collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders.
• Highly developed verbal and written skills, including the ability to produce accurate and detailed reports against the role’s Key Performance Indicators.
• An understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health and wellbeing.
• Understanding or recovery principles and/or strengths-based principles.
• Knowledge of the NDIS and related frameworks.
• Take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.

Qualification/s:

Certificate IV or above in a social science or related discipline, NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate.

Other Screening Requirements:

A current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
A current Employee Working with Children Check card.
A current National Police Check.
COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate & Booster information or a valid medical exemption.
Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme clearance.
Proof of qualifications.
