MIDDAY ON THURSDAY, 11 JULY 2024Job DescriptionUnder general direction, the Network Administrator:

  • Assists with the planning, development, installation and configuration of the department’s information and related technology (IT) networks.
  • Performs Business as Usual (BAU) operational tasks and by providing audits and reports ensuring the corporate network environment is operating at an acceptable level.
  • Provides reports on corporate network environment load and capacity, and will run performance tests.
  • Contributes to the effective service delivery for the department’s regional/remote telecommunications environment that provisions the department’s frontline marine, aerial and terrestrial operations.
  • Undertakes routine and complex installation and maintenance for the department’s telecommunications network.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement for telecommunications services used by the department.
  • Monitors performance of the department’s telecommunication networks, systems and equipment, identifies complex problems and initiates action to resolve them.
  • Is the dedicated Level 2/3 liaison/communication link between IT service operations relating to network services.
  • Shares knowledge and provides technical assistance within the OIM Technology and Security Section when required and contributes specialist technical advice to a variety of audiences including departmental staff and other users of the department’s systems.
Selection CriteriaApplicants should address the following three (3) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. * Working experience in exploring various possibilities and support in generating innovative open standard based solutions related to IT network and telecommunication systems and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply lateral thinking to contribute ideas and solutions in a complex environment, utilising best practice principles, methods and processes related to contemporary network administration issues.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard security frameworks (for example: ASD Essential 8, ASD ISM, NIST Cyber Security Framework, ISO/IEC 27000-series) and IT service management practices (for example: ITIL).
