About the Role
As part of the transition to a significant global copper producer, Sandfire are establishing a modern global network and Cyber Security Platform leveraging the latest Cloud based architecture and related products. This is a truly unique opportunity to join a dynamic team at the beginning of a journey to design and build a cutting-edge Global Network and Cybersecurity operation.
An ideal candidate for this role would be either a network engineer with passion for cybersecurity or a Security Engineer with solid network background. While hands-on experience is valuable, the right mindset and desire to learn and grow are more important for this role.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
- Network Infrastructure Design and Implementation:
- Play a key role in design and implementation projects for SASE and SDWAN built around Palo Alto and Fortinet technologies.
- Configure and troubleshoot network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and SDWAN appliances, Azure network gateways.
- Participate in design and implementation of Azure networks and their integration with global network.
- Assist remote IT teams with design and implementation of local network by providing expert advice and guidance.
- Create and maintain operational documentation and diagrams.
- Network Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor global network performance and proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Monitor and improve the local wired and wireless network in Perth offices.
- Perform system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
- Manage firewalls, including security policies, VPNs and dynamic routing.
- Manage SDWAN and SASE environments (security policy, VPN settings, routing, traffic management)
- Implement and operate network monitoring system.
- Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide Level-2/3 support and in-depth troubleshooting to resolve network-related issues.
- Work with vendor technical support to resolve complex issues or faults.
- Collaborate with other IT personnel to ensure effective problem resolution.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies.
- Security Operations:
- A part of this role there will be a requirement to manage related cyber security toolsets such as XDR and vulnerability management platforms with assistance from technology partners and senior team members. These activities would be more business focused and not too technically involved.
- Implement and operate NAC solution.
- Participate in development and implementation of company-wide security policies, and procedures in conjunction with the security governance team.
- Assessment and management of cybersecurity risks.
- Ensure Network Security and compliance with industry standards.
- Vendor Liaison:
- Collaborate with vendors for technology roadmap and planning, problem resolution and to stay updated on current industry trends.
About You
Minimum Requirements and Skills:- A minimum of 2 years hands-on network, firewall or Security Engineering, or related experience.
- Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP model, overlay networking.
- A minimum of CCNA certification or equivalent knowledge level. Actual certifications such as CCNA/NP, PCNSE/SA, NSE4+, or other network or security related certifications would be beneficial but are not mandatory.
- The technology stack primarily consists of Fortinet, Palo Alto and Cisco products.
- Security-centric mindset and critical thinking are essential for this role. An ideal candidate would be working towards CISSP or similar certification and/or willing to acquire such certification in near future.
- Solid understanding of Next-Generation firewalls and their security capabilities
- University degree in Computer Science or a related subject, or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Hands-on experience with network diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Azure cloud networking would be beneficial. This role requires knowledge of Azure networking to coordinate with suppliers and MSPs, but hands-on implementation component may be limited.
- Understanding of cyber threats and risks, MITRE ATT&AK framework, penetration testing principles.
- Experience working with Cisco ISE or other NAC solutions such as ClearPass or Forescout would be beneficial.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols and principles (e.g., IPSEC, TCP/IP, BGP, QoS.).
