New Product Development Technologist

ABFH supplies national retailers with quality products such as The British Sausage Company, Peppercorn Food Company, Roccos Butchery, Tradition Smallgoods and Caves Road Farms brands. 
 

As a growing national business, we take pride in our commitment to quality, exceptional customer service, and innovative practices. Currently, we're on the lookout for a talented NPD (New Product Development) Technologist to join our team.

Reporting to the NPD Manager at our innovation center, the role entails overseeing the entire Product Development process, from initial concept to market launch.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operating from our newly constructed Innovation Centre, equipped with high-quality offices, a presentation kitchen, and a pilot plant.
• Directly collaborating with retailers to develop premium New Products for both ABF and retailer brands, with presentations conducted at retailers' offices as necessary.
• Managing the execution of the NPD program and coordinating product launches with support from marketing, technical, procurement, and operational teams.
• Ensuring timely commercialization of New Products, meeting cost targets, and adhering to functional, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Coordinating factory trials to assess product and process feasibility.
• Handling specification management for raw materials, packaging, and finished products across company and customer databases.
• Recording all NPD trials appropriately and building a repository of launch-ready products.
• Providing regular written updates on NPD progress and participating in bi-annual full-day NPD strategy sessions.

The ideal candidate for this role possesses:

• A demonstrated passion for food and a proven track record of creating innovative food products.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as an NPD technologist in the food industry. Experience in meat manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
• Tertiary qualifications in food science (Degree or Masters). 
• Previous experience collaborating with national retailers.
• Proficiency in project management, with a strong ability to manage project timelines effectively.
• Capability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Hands-on approach to conducting factory trials.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Approachable, optimistic, and naturally curious personality.
• Proven problem-solving skills and a dedication to achieving favorable outcomes.
