NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – SUNCARE COMMUNITY SERVICES LTD (Suncare)
Suncare Community Services Ltd provides high quality Community and Home-based services to individuals and carers focusing on Aged Care and Disability Support. With an annual turnover of over $80 million (FY24) and a committed workforce of over 500 employees (FTE) and 200 volunteers, our reach spans across the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Rockhampton, the Capricorn Coast, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, the Fraser Coast and the Greater Brisbane areas. Our purpose is to meet the needs of the aged and vulnerable people within our local communities by delivering innovative services, advocating for change, and trailling new solutions that support people to live life their way.
The current services provided by Suncare include Regional Assessment Services (RAS), respite assistance and emergency respite coordination, in-home personal care, housekeeping assistance, home delivered meals, transport, home maintenance, social events and activities, a range of clinical health services including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and nursing services.

Board VacanciesThe Suncare Board is seeking to fill two Non-Executive Director vacancies because of the upcoming retirement of one director, and future retirement of other long-serving directors.
Experience and knowledge in the following key competencies are essential:
Organisational strategy: ability to think strategically and critically assess matters, plan and develop effective strategies in the context of organisational objectives.
Knowledge of a director’s responsibilities – includes an understanding of the role as well as the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities. A GAICD-equivalent qualification or willingness to undertake the AICD company directors’ course or equivalent.
In addition, Board experience is highly desirable – good directors will be comfortable with the ways of a collegiate and productive Boardroom.
Vacancy One – Risk and ComplianceExperience across the following is being sought:
Risk Management and Compliance: Experience in risk management and compliance, and the ability to:
- Oversee the ongoing development of a comprehensive risk management strategy.
- Monitor compliance with the risk management strategy, to ensure that an appropriate, sound and effective prudentially compliant risk management and compliance framework and supporting policies and controls are in place and observed to prudently identify, assess, monitor and manage risks to safeguard the interest of stakeholders and that these are regularly reviewed.
- Monitor the Company’s compliance with Board policies.
- Monitor the Company’s compliance with funding agreements, legislation and government directives.
- Oversee external reporting and notification requirements to ensure compliance.
Experience across the following is being sought:
Financial performance: Qualifications and experience in accounting and/or finance and the ability to:
- Analyse key financial statements
- Critically assess financial viability and performance
- Contribute to strategic financial planning
- Oversee budgets and the efficient use of resources
- Oversee investment portfolio, funding arrangements and accountability
Commercial business management experience at a senior level: ability to critically assess financial controls, business systems, processes and improvements.
Additional Desirable CompetenciesDemonstrable governance-level experience in any of the following would also be highly desirable from candidates for either position:
- IT strategy and cybersecurity: knowledge and experience in the strategic use and governance of information management and information technology, particularly in the context of data collection and including personal information privacy and security risk management.
- Workforce strategy: experience in strengthening critical capability and core competencies within an organisation.
- Scheduling and operations management: demonstrated understanding of scheduling and operational challenges associated with delivery of care to aged persons in a resource-challenged environment.
- Environmental, Social and Governance: demonstrated experience of ESG oversight and reporting.
- Communications, Marketing and Branding: experience in increasing brand awareness and engagement.

Role and CommitmentDirectors attend approximately six board meetings per year. Board meetings are held bi-monthly at the Suncare’s head office in Maroochydore Qld, or at alternative locations as advised. Directors will be nominated to a Board Committee(s) and are required to attend meetings or teleconferences particular to that Committee. The role may require attendance in monthly conference calls for management/ financial reporting and general compliance issues. The estimated commitment time is approximately four to five days per month.
