Our Strategic Finance portfolio consults into Local Government Authorities delivering a range of projects including: financial feasibility assessments, financial sustainability reviews, pricing & revenue strategies, service reviews, asset management planning, benchmarking & comparative assessments, corporate & operational planning, business & operational efficiency reviews, capital planning & prioritisation, business case writing, demand assessments, due diligence assessments, governance & implementation planning, grant & funding submissions, regulatory & legislative reviews.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an ambitious and diligent leader to work hand-in-hand with our Portfolio Leaders and CEO to lead and support growth in our NSW Strategic Finance portfolio, by supporting and expanding our existing client base, whilst also growing additional market share. To be successful in this role, you will master the balance of client interaction, business development, revenue generation, team leadership & mentoring coupled with project management & delivery.
Your goal is to lead the Strategic Finance Portfolio in NSW in the delivery of innovative projects and products that enhance the efficiency and market reach of AEC. Your focus will be tiered:
- Consolidation and growth of market share in NSW across the Strategic Finance portfolio
- Support growth of the Strategic Finance portfolio for AEC in VIC.
- Support growth of other portfolios and projects at AEC across Australia.
- Secure and build future revenue for the Strategic Finance Portfolio in NSW, and elsewhere in Australia.
- Support the day-to-day management and delivery of high-value consultancy projects managed by the Strategic Finance team.
- Contribute to other portfolios of AEC where your skill set and experience can assist and support other Portfolio Leaders in securing and delivering revenue, as required.

This position will be suited to a confident and motivated finance professional with exceptional networking and project/team management skills. You will be passionate about developing your people, driving results and delivering quality client outcomes. To be considered, you will bring with you:
- At least 10-years’ experience in a leadership/managerial role (ideally as a Chief Financial Officer or similar responsibilities) within local government or having consulted into this market, where you have gained a deep understanding and technical competency across all areas of local government finance.
- Accreditation as a Certified Practicing Accountant or Charted Accountant or other recognised financial qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience in development of strategy and long-term planning.
- Experience in presenting to Executive Team and a Local Government Council or other board structures.
- Experience in leading, supporting and developing a team of professionals.
- Experience of managing a multi-disciplinary project team.
- Exceptional client management and relationship building skills
- Extensive practical experience in providing strategic advice and delivering project outcomes that exceed client expectations.
- Experience in business development and/or revenue generation is highly beneficial, but not mandatory.
