The DepartmentThe Emergency Service within Alfred Health sees over 100,000 patients per annum. Sandringham Emergency Department manages approximately 30,000 and The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre (E&TC) manages approximately 75,000 patients. Sandringham Emergency Department is community focused and has an integrated Urgent Care Centre model of care. In addition, Sandringham also manages paediatric patients providing a dynamic mix and opportunity to enhance clinical and management skills. The E&TC provides emergency medical services to the local community whilst also providing Victorian state-wide services for:
  • Trauma (adult)
  • Hyperbaric Medicine
  • Burns (adult)
  • HIV Medicine
  • Cystic Fibrosis (adult)
  • Haemophilia (adult)
  • Heart & Lung Transplant
  • Critical Neurosurgery
Alfred Health aims to ensure all patients receive timely, high quality care consistent with their clinical needs. This principle applies to all our patients, those admitted as a result of emergency, elective surgery patients and those treated as outpatients through our specialist clinics. For our emergency patients this involves patients being assessed by a senior doctor who will provide their definitive care as soon as possible.Our care delivery system is based on a multi-disciplinary team approach to care. Each shift is staffed by a complement of both senior and junior medical and nursing staff; this enables a safe, supported practice environment to facilitate safe patient care delivery and experiential learning opportunities for all staff. Medical and nursing staff work collaboratively in the comprehensive assessment, person centred care planning and delivery of treatment of our patients for the entire duration of their stay.The RoleThe Nurse Manager for Education and Research is a member of the emergency services leadership team who with the Alfred E&TC Nurse Manager and Sandringham Emergency Nurse Manager will be responsible for safe and effective care delivery and future development of the Emergency service at Alfred Health. They will lead both the Sandringham and Alfred Education teams to operationalise the strategic plan of the organisation, and plays a pivotal role in meeting broader organisational imperatives.The Nurse Manager for Education and Research supports excellence in clinical practice and promotes the development of nurses, ensuring the philosophy of nursing and standards of practice are consistently reflected in professional practice and patient care. The Nurse Manager for Education and Research is responsible for safe staff progression, clinical support, implementing processes and promoting research to improve patient outcomes.Experience and Qualifications RequiredApplicants must be a current Registered Nurse Division 1 with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and have recent extensive experience in an acute clinical and trauma service. Post graduate Qualifications in health care or business management are preferred. The successful applicant must demonstrate management and leadership skills including:
  • Ability to lead and manage change
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to motivate individuals and groups to achieve shared goals
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively and provide support to nursing staff, medical staff, a range of other health professionals an support service staff
