Role details
The Mental Health Nurse Management Team at the Mackay Community Health Centre are seeking applications for a Nurse Practitioner (AODS) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity
- The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is the most senior and expert clinical nurse within their area of practice in the Hospital and Health Service. They are an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team who practices autonomously but in collaboration with others to assess and manage clients within their clinical context using expert nursing knowledge and skills at an advanced level based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Registered Nurse Standards of Practice.
- The NP is accountable for clinical practice, professional advice given and delegations of care and contributes expert nursing assessment and advice to achieve integrated nursing care within a risk management and best practice framework.
- The NP will primarily provide direct expert nursing care and will initiate, implement and monitor relevant interventional therapies and interpret diagnostic pathology as part of the role with Alcohol and Other Drugs Team which also includes the authority to prescribe medications and initiate direct referrals to other healthcare professionals.
- The NP will take a lead role in ensuring targets are met in an efficient and effective manner which will include collaborating with the multidisciplinary partners to ensure patients receive the most appropriate care in the most appropriate place by the most appropriate personnel. It is therefore important that the successful applicant can demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in Alcohol and Other Drugs as well as the ability to communicate effectively, work well in a team environment and influence change.
- This role will report operationally and professionally to the MHAODS Division Nursing Director.

Alcohol and Other Drugs Service and Specialists Team
The Alcohol and Other Drugs service aims to build safe and healthy communities by taking action to minimise the health, social, and economic harms caused by alcohol and other drugs. The Mackay AODS provides a specialist and comprehensive service across the continuum of alcohol and other drug assessment, intervention and community maintenance/aftercare. The service is supportive of the client and their family/carer through child and family sensitive practice. The team use a harm minimisation approach within a case management model of service delivery, offer an intake service, Opioid Treatment Program and also provide services to the Queensland Police Service and Department of Corrections via the Queensland Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative, offering scheduled appointments for both Police and Court Diversion clients.
