Prison Health Services (PHS) is a rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and Young Persons across eight facilities (six Correctional Centres and two Youth Detention Centres).

About the role
The Nurse Practitioner Candidate (NPC) is an advanced practice position delivering an expert level of clinical and professional practice within Prison Health Services. The NPC is required to be currently enrolled in a Master of Nurse Practitioner program working towards endorsement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (Ahpra). The NPC is an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team who practices in collaboration with others to assess and manage patients within the Prison Health Services using expert nursing knowledge and skills at an advanced level based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Registered Nurse Standards of Practice.
The NPC is accountable for clinical practice, professional advice given and delegations of care and contributes specialised clinical expertise, clinical assessment and advice to achieve integrated nursing care within a risk management and best practice framework.
This role operates within the Prison Health Services primary health care model of service.

About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrates advancing clinical evidence-based skill, knowledge and problem solving in the provision of specialist nursing consultation that optimises the primary health care clinical management for patients in Prison Health Services.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the establishment of therapeutic relationships, incorporating advanced communication, health education, advocacy and culturally competent professional practices that facilitate achieving optimised health experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to use clinical information and other relevant information technology systems to support decision making, conduct surveillance and facilitate quality improvement strategies.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes of change management and can apply a range of strategies to successfully negotiate organisational change.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional development of self and others, identifying strategy and experiences that evidence this.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16 (PDF) ( https://www.health.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/150120/hed-0116.pdf )
- It is a mandatory requirement to be enrolled in and actively completing a Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner post-graduate course. Approval and endorsement by the appropriate Nursing and Midwifery Executive team (Executive Director of Nursing or Nursing Director) is required as part of enrolment process.
