About your opportunity
The Nurse Manager for Elective Surgery possesses the clinical knowledge and experience to implement the elective surgical standard and lead the Elective Surgical Bookings team. The position provides clinical management and leadership in the coordination and development of Elective Surgery processes to achieve organisational goals.
The position is accountable for managing and reporting against the elective surgical key accountability indicators, including but not limited to, zero long waiting elective surgical patients, first on first off, Elective Surgery patients treated in time by category and total volumes. The position also provides strategic and operational direction in the implementation of processes to optimise access to surgical services within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.
Role Requirements
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
- Highly Desirable:
- Previous experience in an elective surgical management role is highly desirable.
- Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
- This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.

Skills and experience:
- Demonstrated leadership proficiency through the articulation of team engagement principles and personal attributes that influence a positive team culture and achieve active collaboration across multidisciplinary services.
- Sound knowledge of elective surgical management.
- Ability to integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including the ability to develop procedures and guidelines.
- Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
- Ability to demonstrate ongoing professional development of self and others.
Generous remuneration package value up to $159,899 p.a. comprising and salary range of $128,701 to $139,732 p.a. (Nurse Grade 7)
