Job description

The role In this role, you will hold accountability for adhering to the standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia, ensuring high-level leadership and management in the formulation, execution, and evaluation of strategic workforce initiatives pertaining to Mental Health, alcohol, and Other drug services. This entails providing counsel on innovative service delivery models, interdisciplinary team education, and workforce capability. You will spearhead the implementation of policy changes, professional standards, and accreditation measures to bolster workforce capacity and service delivery in alignment with Queensland's Mental Health reform agenda, including active participation in cross-divisional teams and partnerships with key stakeholders to address workforce challenges comprehensively.
Moreover, you will champion state-wide service and workforce reform endeavours, steering clinical education strategies, and advocating for policy enhancements to fortify the sustainability and proficiency of Mental Health and Alcohol and Other drug nursing services. Your role will entail fostering collaborative partnerships with various stakeholders, contributing to high-quality reports, and representing Queensland Health on pertinent state and national committees. Additionally, you will offer expert strategic advice to senior management, oversee resource allocation and financial management, and supervise staff, all while upholding Queensland Health's core values and principles.
The successful personThe Nursing DirectorMental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisor, operating at Nurse Grade 11, assumes responsibility for a specific portfolio, leveraging advanced clinical expertise, management leadership, and specialized knowledge to offer comprehensive corporate support aimed at enhancing nursing practice and services.
To excel in this capacity, candidates must possess in-depth expert understanding of Mental Health, alcohol, and Other drug-related issues at state, national, and international levels, encompassing nursing workforce dynamics, as well as a nuanced grasp of the complexities and opportunities within Mental Health and Alcohol and Other drug service provision, workforce development, and education. Demonstrated expertise in managing diverse multidisciplinary nursing services and initiatives, coupled with a keen understanding of regulatory frameworks and training requirements, is essential. Additionally, candidates should highlight a high level of proficiency in identifying, researching, and influencing systemic workforce and service issues, while providing authoritative strategic guidance to advance reform objectives. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to craft comprehensive reports and briefings, coupled with strong negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution abilities, are paramount for effective engagement with various stakeholders across government entities, educational institutions, professional associations, advocacy groups, and non-governmental organizations, ensuring strategic alignment and successful outcomes in the realm of professional workforce and education matters.
