Hold arelevant AQF Certificate III or equivalent, or higher qualification. You canalso have 12 months of relevant work experience or part time equivalence inlieu of the qualification.
Nursing Support Worker provides limited patient care under thedirection of nursing staff.
Nursing Support Worker provides support to participants with physical,developmental, or cognitive disabilities, by assisting them to maintainingtheir independence and improve their overall quality of life. Nursing SupportWorkers work in homes, as well as the community, and provide physicalassistance, and emotional as social support.
Nursing Support Worker is responsible for implementing trainingand support services aimed at maximising the living, employment, social andrecreational skills of older people and people with a disability. Communityinclusion, independence, decision making, and personal choice should bepromoted through these supports, with a focus on individual needs.
Nursing Support Worker helps aged and disabled people with a rangeof daily tasks. These include personal hygiene facilitation, mobility supportand transport, shopping tasks, food preparation, housework tasks, and thecoordination of social events. The provision of company and friendship is animportant part of this role, as is emotional support. Nursing Support Workersmay visit participants regularly or provide ongoing live-in support.
Task andDuties include (but not limited to):
Under the general direction of the Care Service Manager:
§ Assisting people to perform important dailyactivities; Provide direct care assistance to each participant in accordancewith their support plan and as directed by the Care Service Manager,
§ Assisting patients with their personal careneeds such as showering, dressing and eating
§ Performing home based tasks such as foodpreparation,
§ Monitor the safety and well-being of the participantsand report any concerns to the Care Service Manager,
§ Providing companionship, emotional support andfriendship,
§ Assisting patients with their communicationneeds and mobility
§ Support participants to take part in ageappropriate activities and tasks including employment, in home support andcommunity access,
§ Participating in planning the care ofindividuals,
§ Following therapy plans such as interventionsto assist those with dementia and behavioural problems,
§ assisting with rehabilitation exercises, basictreatment and delivering medications
§ providing direct support and assistance totherapists
§ Work with participants, family/ carers,relevant Care Service Managers and other professionals to support the participant’sindividual goals,
§ In conjunction with other members of staffassist in developing, implementing and evaluating training and behaviourprograms to attain identified individual goals,
§ Ensure that all programming undertaken isappropriately maintained, documented and reviewed,
§ Work in accordance with the medicationadministration policy, work health and safety, procedures and participantright’s policies including privacy and confidentiality, and all other relevantPolicy & Procedures
§ Ensure completion of appropriate and timely documentation;Relevant information on support provided is to be recorded in participant notesand communication book as required.
PERSONAL Care tasks RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES as Nursing SupportWorker:
Personal Care tasks include but are not limited to:
· Supervision and assistance with showering/bathing,sponging
· Assistance with rising and retiring
· Assistance with toileting and other personalhygiene functions
· Assistance with dressing/undressing
· Assistance with dental care, hair washing,grooming, shaving
· Assistance with mobility - to sit up, to turnout of the bed, to stand to sit, to transfer to commode or wheelchair
· Assistance with fitting aids/appliances
· Assistance with exercise and therapy programs
· Monitoring of well being
WORKHEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES as NursingSupport Worker:
· Participate in staff consultation processesaround The Disability Work Health and Safety Policy and relevant specific workpractices,
· Undertake compulsory WHS training,
· Ensure all Hazards are Manual handling(including use of hoists and positioning),
· Infection control,
· Be vigilant in monitoring individual workpractices and report any concerns with respect to health and safety immediatelyto The Care Service Manager,
· Notify the Care Service Manager immediately inthe event of equipment failure; Do not undertake any lifting against directions,
· Report all hazards to supervisor promptly onappropriate form,
· Report all incidents/accidents and injuriespromptly,
· Carry out all duties with diligence and duecare for personal safety and the safety of others,
· Ensure the safe usage of the wheelchairaccessible bus.
Polishlanguage is a need due to aged care residence needs, AFP current check, drivinglicence, Statutory declaration re no criminal records in other countries of theresidence.
