Position Summary:
Our Occupational Therapists are a crucial part of our Community Care and Support Services team and are primarily responsible for the assessment and facilitation of services to clients in all aspects of their daily life including maintaining independence, rehabilitation, meaningful engagement, supporting wellbeing and creating enabling environments through design and assistive technology. This is provided through assessment, intervention and ongoing support to clients and their families.
As a member of our dementia focused Allied Health team, you will primarily be focused on working with people living with younger onset dementia (NDIS), as well as supporting older clients with cognitive impairment at home. Your duties as an Occupational Therapist with AWA will include (but not be limited to):
- provide occupational therapy services:
- cognitive, functional and home environment assessments;
- development of occupational therapy support plans and intervention – e.g. task adaptation, environmental modification, prescription of dementia-specific assistive technology, cognitive rehab, etc;
- review client’s function and work with client and their support partners to maximise independence and wellbeing;
- empowering and supporting clients to advocate for themselves and support choice and autonomy;
- supports and contributes to the strong inter-disciplinary person-centred team’s ethos;
- participates in research and innovation projects;
- ensure compliance with all contractual requirements including the recording and reporting of all associated activities;
- ensure provision of quality person-centred service to clients; and
- other duties as directed by Senior Manager, Community Care & Support Services.
Essential:
- BSc (Occupational Therapy) or a MSc (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent;
- current AHPRA registration;
- ability to work in a small team, manage multiple projects and work with a high level of autonomy;
- exceptional written & verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills;
- ability to problem solve and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders;
- sound skills using Microsoft Office suite and report writing; and
- current NDIS Check and WA driver’s licence.
- experience with Positive Behaviour Support (PBS);
- occupational therapy experience in a community care organisation;
- experience with a person-centred approach to assisting people living with dementia;
- working knowledge of the NDIS;
- knowledge and experience of working with people with dementia in a range of care settings, such as acute, primary, community or residential aged care; and
- experience in adapting the home environment to maximise independence.
