Position Summary
UnitingCare is searching for an Occupational Therapist (Paediatric), to join our Early Childhood Approach (ECA) Partner in Community team, based in the Mackay region. This candidate should have a passion for inclusion and participation for children with developmental concerns, delays, and disability, and their families. Part-time hours and recent graduates will be considered. The position is based in the Mackay region and is a full time position, maximum term contract to 30th June 2025.
This role is focused on providing short-term early support with families of young children aged 0-6 years. Working both autonomously and as part of UnitingCare’s ECA team, you will;
  • Work in a contemporary way that aligns with Best Practice Guidelines for early intervention. This includes using a capacity building approach to intervention.
  • Use your clinical expertise and child development knowledge to work with children and their families in a collaborative way to achieve functional outcomes.
  • Provide outcome-focused, short-term support to enable young children to increase their functional capacity and involvement in their community.
  • Work in a transdisciplinary (key worker) manner.
  • Provide guidance and practical therapeutic strategies to families and young children with developmental concerns, delays or disability. This will involve working with the child, their family and other people with established relationships (e.g., Educators), in their natural and community-based settings.
  • Link families to appropriate community based and mainstream supports, or where appropriate, to the NDIS for a funded plan.
What you'll need
  • Recognised qualifications, registration and experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current Drivers Licence and flexibility for travel within the region.
  • Ability to undergo a “Working with Children Check” under the screening provisions of the Commission for Children and Young People Act (2000) and obtain a Suitability Card (Blue Card).
  • Ability to undergo and obtain NDIS Worker Screening
Post graduate experience working in paediatric therapies within a community and multidisciplinary setting would be preferred.
