Job description

We are looking for fun loving Occupational Therapist to join our experienced and enthusiastic allied health team in Northwest -Rouse Hill and Richmond or Southwest- Campbelltown (Full Time/Part Time/Casual). Our current client focus is on delivering supports in early childhood intervention, but we require someone with experience to broaden the age range of service in both the therapeutic and assessment space.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a person’s ability to carry out essential daily tasks which build on their current strengths, needs and priorities.
  • Support an individual’s inclusion and participation in the communities that they choose.
  • In-clinic and community based occupational therapy assessments including all areas of activities of daily living, mobility and home safety:
    • Equipment prescription and relevant clinical justification (basic equipment through to more complex specialised equipment
    • Recommendation of community-based services 
    • Equipment applications for a variety of government equipment programs
    • Compensable client assessment, intervention and report writing
    • Communicating assessed needs clearly and precisely to client and funding
      organisation within appropriate time frames
  • Providing clients with all available options / solutions within assessment brief and
    NDIS funding guidelines
  • Providing advice to family members, carers, employers and teachers about adapting clients' home, leisure, work and school environments
  • Planning and directing programs through the use of vocational, recreational, remedial, social and educational activities on an individual and group basis.
  • Ensuring recommendations meet all legal requirements, including Australian Standards (where applicable)
  • Completing relevant paperwork relating to assessments (both clinical and administrative) to a high standard, including client file case notes
  • Liaison with other community-based organisations and GPs etc to ensure best practice in holistic client focused care
  • Working with other Health Professionals in overall case management of clients
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, families, team members and other key stakeholders.
  • Consistently demonstrate best practice and a commitment to quality standards, proactively identifying needs for improvement and showing initiative in meeting these improvement needs
  • Commitment to the ongoing development of McCall and its services
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development within both work time and personal time, including maintaining up to date knowledge of evidence-based practice.
  • Support and supervision of less experienced colleagues within the organisation
  • Assist with quality induction of new staff members as required and supervision of students.
  • Fulfil administrative requirements such as data collection and record keeping. 
  • Accurately record client interventions 
  • Ensure compliance with our duty of care to clients (Code of Practice)
  • Ensure services meet quality service standards, and contract agreements.
  • Responsible for ensuring that McCall Gardens Services complies with its legal requirements and strives for best practice in the provision of a safe workplace for all
  • Work within the policies and procedures of the organisation particularly those promoting a
    safe working environment (including OH&S procedures)

Qualification, Skills and Experience 

  • Bachelor of Applied (Occupational Therapy) or, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or, Master of Occupational Therapy

LICENSES, ACCREDIRATIONS, INSURANCE

  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Cleared and valid police check
  • Cleared and valid Working with Children Check
  • Cleared and valid NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate 
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance (cover for minimum $10 million)
  • Valid driver’s license (if role requires travel to deliver services)
  • Must satisfy all visa requirements for working in Australia.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum completion of associated degree outlined in ‘Qualifications’.
  • Amount of professional experience obtained within the discipline will determine assigned caseload.

Technical Competencies:

  • Understands how occupational performance relates to developmental stages and how it is
    impacted by developmental, neurological, intellectual and physical disability.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Occupational Therapy assessment tools relevant to role/sector(s) Demonstrates an ability to assess the equipment needs of clients in relation to daily activities including, sleeping, sitting, safe transport and personal care.
  • Assesses need for modifications to home and other environments accessed by people with a
    developmental, intellectual or physical disability
  • Uses appropriate assessment checklist(s) and follows prescription requirements and
    processes when prescribing or recommending equipment.
  • Demonstrates ability to prescribe adaptive equipment and assistive devices to facilitate and
    enhance occupational performance.
  • Demonstrates a range of intervention strategies to address needs that relate to, activities of
    daily living, functional performance, fine motor skills, motor planning, sensory processing,
    perceptual motor, handling and sensory integration

Performance Goals and Reviews

  • Realistic KPI indicators set according to level of experience and pay level determined by the Line Manager
  • KPI measures will include client outcome quality assurance reviews, productivity output, willingness to expand scope of work and professional skills required for the role.
  • Professional skills include (but are not limited to):
    • Organising daily timetable to adhere to relevant experience and expected productivity level.
    • Planning for availability for new clients
    • Deal with clients, suppliers and other employees in a concise and professional manner at all times.
    • Ensure environment is usable for all staff and clients at all times!
    • Ability to work within and learn from a mutli-disciplinary allied health team for the benefit of the client. 
  • A performance and career development plan developed with consultation from Therapist, Clinical Supervisor and Line Manager during performance reviews.
