About the role
The Community Based Health and First Aid (CBHFA) is based on community development principles and trains volunteers who identify and respond to health and wellbeing issues of concern to the local community. Globally CBHFA operates in prisons across 19 countries. Townsville Women's Correctional Centre has been operational as a CBHFA site since 2019. An independent evaluation of the program found a cleaner, safer prison, decreased self-harm and improved hope for the future among participants. The program is based on community development principles and trains prisoners as volunteers who use their lived experience to identify and lead projects to improve health and wellbeing issues of priority concern to prisoners.
The role will support the development and implementation of the Community Based Health and First Aid in Action Prison Program (CBHFA), ensuring a culturally appropriate approach.
