ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Cumberland City Council proudly operates 13 Education and Care services across the community where our staff educate and care for children from birth to 13 years of age.

Across our long day care, out of school hours care and family day care services, our staff are passionate about empowering today’s children to become tomorrow’s future by teaching children to be respectful, resilient and confident in an environment that is accepting, safe and inspiring.

Our Education and Care team are looking for a number of OOSH Educators to join the team! This role is responsible for undertaking the day to day operations of the centre and the Educator OOSH must be committed to educate and nurture children from all communities to be respectful, resilient and confident by providing an environment that is accepting, safe and inspiring. 

The role is key in developing key relationships with Education and Care staff, other Council staff, children and their families, and is part of a multidisciplinary team where positive communication is paramount.

Reporting to the Centre Director - OOSH, this position will also maintain a clean and safe learning environment that nurtures and inspires children to explore and engage in rich, meaningful experiences which allows them to continue to construct their understanding of the world.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Relevant qualifications in an education and care related discipline (or working towards with completion within 12 months) or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Valid Working with Children Check Clearance Number
  • Child Protection course approved by the NSW Regulatory Authority (s162A Education and Care Services National Law) (or willing to obtain)
  • Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificate as approved by ACECQA (or willing to obtain)
  • Completion of Food Handler/Safety Training (or willing to obtain)
  • Current class C drivers licence
  • Proven skills and experience in the following areas:
    • Education and care
    • Customer service
    • Communication skills in written and oral format
    • Computer operating systems
    • Effective time management and organisational skills.

Position information: There are 2 x part-time positions available and will be required to work from Monday to Friday between 6:00am to 6:00pm, and will include split shifts. 

These roles are predominantly located at Council's Sherwood Grange OOSH, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.

  • 1 x permanent, part-time position, working 4 hours per day with split shifts.
  • 1 x term contract, part-time position working 6 hours per day with split shifts.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 5 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $30.96  to $35.60, plus 11% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role.

Council fully supports the aims and objectives of NSW Child Protection Legislation, and associated provisions, and will implement all necessary measures to ensure a safe and supporting Council environment, which endeavours to promote child safe child friendly practices. It is essential for applicants to submit their WWCC number with their application. It is an offence under NSW legislation for barred workers to apply for or otherwise attempt to obtain, undertake or remain in child-related employment.
