We are seeking an exceptional Learning Support Officer to join our growing team in a 5 day per week permanent role. You are a great individual performer and a real team player who has experience working within a school or educational environment.
Gateway Community High is a unique, independent Special Assistance School that opened in January 2021. Our holistic approach is based on our philosophy, culture and values which together aim to achieve our vision of creating a School where every student can Achieve. Belong. Grow. We offer an alternative to large mainstream learning environments, where we nurture and inspire our students. We currently have 65 motivated young people engaged in completing their schooling.
We offer the NESA curriculum in an educational setting tailored for young people to support their learning and belonging. Our Stage 5 program (Years 9/10) enables students to attain the NSW RoSA and our Stage 6 program (Senior 1 and 2) leads to the HSC. We are committed to steady growth with continuous improvement, including the addition of curriculum options over the next 5 years.
Gateway Community High is an initiative of Macquarie Community College, a highly regarded not for profit adult education provider, operating across NorthWest and Western Sydney for more than 70 years. The School has its own dedicated premises on the Macquarie Community College site at Carlingford.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Gateway Community High offers above award salaries and outstanding employment conditions. Mandatory employment requirements
- Australian Citizen, permanent resident or relevant visa
- Working With Children Clearance (WWCC)
- Satisfactory national police check
- Experience in a relevant role
Selection Criteria
Experience, Skills and Commitment to Purpose
- Understanding of how to engage, relate and work appropriately and sensitively with young people with a range of abilities, ambitions and backgrounds.
- Previous experience in student Learning Support, preferably working closely with students that face challenges to full participation in their School education.
- Proven capacity to understand the needs of learners that may have attainment below their age or Stage level, and apply appropriate Learning Support and encouragement to foster achievement and progression.
- Proven capacity to effectively engage and work collaboratively with other staff, fostering a culture of serving others, professionalism, responsibility and collegiality in open communication.
- Proven capacity to support the delivery of curriculum and programs in a relevant, meaningful and engaging manner.
- Proven capacity to work collaboratively with others in the wider management of student wellbeing and development.
- Understanding of, and respect for, cultural and other forms of diversity.
- Strong skills in utilisation of ICT technologies and software, in particular, database record keeping.
- Awareness of current trends in education and their application in the educational environment of a Special Assistance School.
- Proven capacity to work strategically and effectively through challenges.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
