A bit about the role
You will work within the larger Open Space Maintenance Unit to complete horticulture and parks maintenance tasks and programs to Council standards and polices. You will pride yourself in making Wyndham a better place for the community.
Daily, you will take responsibility for the care of plant, tools and equipment, including fuel, lubrication and fluid levels as required and fulfill allocated tasks in maintaining trees, gardens, parks, plantations drains and/or road reserves.
What you will do
- Eradicate weeds by both manual and chemical techniques
- Maintain all Open Space assets connected to Council Centre’s
- Operate plant and equipment associated with garden maintenance - e.g., rotary hoes, mowers, brush cutters, pruners, etc.
- Participate in cleansing of Wyndham’s assets including footpaths, park furniture, playgrounds, barbeques, and other locations as requested
- General maintenance and repairs of irrigation
- Assist in training apprentices
- Assist in landscaping design and special projects
- Act on or report observed situations requiring maintenance attention
What you will bring
- Horticulture Certificate or equivalent (desirable)
- Current Working with Children Check (desirable)
- License to drive a motor vehicle and truck (desirable)
- Chemical Users Certificate (desirable)
- Experience in passive and active Open Space irrigation or similar
- Experience in supervision of apprentices and contractors
- Experience and skills in weed/plant identification
- Ability to work with other employees and deal with the public in a courteous manner
- Experience in use and maintenance of small plant
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
- A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude
