The Civil Construction & Maintenance department position requires a multi-skilled employee to carry out asphalt, concreting, drainage, and other capital and maintenance-related work. The role includes excavation of existing material, base preparation, forming up, concreting or asphalt laying or fixing and associated finishing. You will be required to work as part of a team that delivers cost-effective quality service to the residents and business owners of the local community. This position may be required to work anywhere within the Council area. This position will report to a Team Leader and involves working as part of a team that may vary in size, depending upon the nature and size of the job. Due to the Council’s size, you will be expected to be flexible in the variety of duties that you may be assigned. The role may include but is not restricted to cleaning blocked drains, signposting, repairing street furniture or installing it, and using specialised equipment.
About You
- Hold a minimum of a Class C Driver license and willing to obtain MR driving license in the first 6 months of employment.
- A current WHS General Construction Induction (white) card.
- Traffic controllers certificates or willing to obtain these qualifications later.
- Experience in all tasks associated with laying of asphalt road and footpath pavements
- An understanding and commitment to the principles of EEO, WH&S and cultural diversity and how they are applied in the workplace.
- A level of physical fitness sufficient to undertake all activities related to driving and labouring and enjoyment of working outdoors.
- Ability to follow direction and deal with other staff and members of the public in a courteous and professional manner.
