Our Queensland team are looking for an Operations Manager who will have responsibility for all operational aspects of all recycling facilities in the state. Working closely with the General Manager, this role constantly develops new initiatives for continuous improvement in the company's waste management and landfill diversion performance.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance are a priority for all sites and embedded through all processes, procedures and workplace culture.
  • Educate and work with Site Supervisors and Managers regarding the importance of maintaining strict adherence to site specific regulations, including but not limited to EPLs.
  • Provide support, advice and actively manage Site Supervisors and Managers to optimize performance at each site.
  • Work closely with Site Supervisors and Site Managers to develop the skills of all employees and identify talent to develop into future leadership roles.
  • As a priority, leverage the network to maximize all options to divert waste from landfill.
  • Working closely with peers, assist with or lead the implementation of improvement initiatives as required.
  • Use data to identify areas of improvement and ensure that maximum throughput on all sites is achieved.
  • Oversee site P&L and ensure sites are run profitably, including roster optimization, care and maintenance of machinery and limited unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure positive customer relationships are maintained and that customer service is a priority with all enquiries and complaints being dealt with efficiently and appropriately and that a satisfactory resolution is achieved.
  • Create a capable, highly engaged, motivated and mobile workforce with low absenteeism and flexibility to move within the network.
  • Maintain minimal stock on site, working with Site Supervisors and Managers to ensure that all finished products leaving sites are free from foreign materials.
  • Coordinate transport / truck requirements with allocations for each of our sites, maximising each load across the network.
  • Ensure site supervisors are covered during leave periods by having a trained 2IC for each site at all times and succession plans in place.
  • Maintain that all activities are carried out within the requirements of all necessary regulatory requirements, but not limited to, the environment laws and regulations, and any planning/licensing requirements
  • Conduct site audits and inspections for compliance
  • Undertake such other duties and tasks appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required and determined by the General Manager
  • Work with the SEQ team and come up with initiatives to minimise incidents and maximise incident reporting
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the Safety, Environment and Quality (SEQ) Management System including primary responsibility for SEQ performance of site operations, compliance audits and any resulting remedial actions
  • Conduct inspections personally with team members to ensure health, safety and environment standards are observed
  • Advise senior management on all SEQ matters on site and monitor the sites overall safety and environmental performance in order to report this to management and to assist with the facilitation of the SEQ budget
  • Act as the nominated management representative at SEQ Committee meetings


Your experience includes:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a fast paced and highly regulated operational environment
  • Proven experience in effective team leadership and staff motivation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and WHS legislation
  • Proven proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to analise data and produce reports
  • Demonstrated understanding and implementation of relevant legislation and the associated legal obligations
  • Experience in risk and incident management
  • Experience in managing a large team and proven ability to get the best out of them
  • Experience or an interest in operating large mobile and fixed plant machinery
  • Tertiary qualification preferred

The role is operational from early 2024 so you will have time to make arrangements to wrap up any current commitments before joining our team.
