A growing Steel Fabrication business is looking for a Operations / Production Manager to head up the team in the East of VIC.
The Company:With a growing portfolio within the major civil infrastructure project sector, our client is now growing into the Steel Fabrication sector. They self-perform their projects and have a Steel Fabrication yard that complements their already successful Civil Engineering arm. With a great track record of delivering quality projects with a dedicated team, they have put themselves on the map as the "Contractor of Choice" in VIC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Orchestrating workshop activities: Take charge and supervise production processes.
- Project comprehension: Understand project requirements, scope of work, and develop production plans for seamless handover to the production crew.
- Shift management: Oversee day shift production, efficiently delegate tasks to the afternoon shift supervisor and crew, maintaining consistent production output levels.
- Meeting targets: Ensure client deadlines are met and daily production targets are achieved.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the projects team, implementing systems for continuous and lean manufacturing, understanding the production flow chart, and ensuring adherence to manufacturing specifications.
- Quality control: Ensure steel components meet critical points for ITP, welding standards for NDT, etc.
- Operational efficiency: Minimize downtime and introduce operational efficiencies.
- Team leadership: Direct and supervise a diverse workshop staff, including engineers, production assistants, fabricators, general laborers, and more.
- People management: Utilise effective people management skills, delegate tasks, and maintain an efficient and motivated team.
- Inventory control: Manage consumables and maintain assets, including equipment and tools.
- Morning meetings:Conduct daily morning meetings with the production team.
- Reporting: Keep management informed of workshop activities through daily reports.
- Previous supervisory or managerial experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong time management and coordination skills.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, engineering, or related industries.
- Exposure to steel and/or fabrication.
- Punctuality and discipline: Must be strict with supervision.
- Positive attitude: Proactive, reliable, and a team player.
- Passion for steel, technology, and manufacturing processes.
The projects that you'll be supplying / manufacturing for are all Infrastructure projects including; Train Stations, Gantries, Tunnels and many more
