And… we’re back, with another Product Ops gig. It’s been a wee while.
The last time we talked about this it felt so undefined and quite mysterious, as well as how new this kind of gig is in Australia. So… none of that has really changed in the last 12-24 months.
But let’s do our best to unpack this together, shall we?
Who would I be working for?
ROLLER.
A guest experience platform.
This is an Australian-founded SaaS business that builds technology that creates the best customer experience within the leisure and attractions industry. From ticketing to POS, CRM, memberships, payments, guest feedback, and plenty more.
While tech was being torn to bits in Australia, and we’re now licking our wounds, ROLLER has continued to grow, here and abroad, and secure further investment, in a time where only a select few businesses were able to raise.
It’s a huge success story that, I believe, continues to fly below the radar.
Can you tell me more about them?
My thoughts?
Highly capable but with no ego. You have a lot of smart people, high performers and motivated, but without arrogance or ego. Brilliant jerks cannot be found. Anywhere.
Everyone is on the same page on what business stands for and where they’re going. A great C-suite that can lead and inspire, but is very much bottom-up. It’s collaborative and not hierarchical. People are engaging, warm, approachable and easy to work with and you’re able to get on with it.
But, back to the role…
There’s a lot in this. Essentially you are in a senior leadership role that is accountable for how the Product and Technology teams operate within the business. In this role, you will be driving greater efficiencies and effectiveness in how the teams work themselves and with the rest of the business at ROLLER, as well as being a key contributor to longer-term vision and business strategy.
This could be tools, systems, frameworks, methodologies, people, structure and metrics.
A key example of responsibility in this role is continuing to build greater connectivity between all departments, driving greater transparency, accountability and collaboration.
This could be OKRs, measurements of success/performance within, Product and Technology, that not only align with the goals/objectives in this part of the business but also ladders up to the company vision and strategy.
How do we better work with other functions throughout the organisation? How do I influence and inspire these teams, as well as the rest of the business about the journey we’re going on and the decisions we are making?
The H1 strategy is set, but you will help shape it beyond the short term.
Who do I need to be?
You will need experience working very closely with or in Product teams in Tech/Product-led organisations. Preferably one that was growing up or scaling.
Stakeholder management and communication. You need to be a story-teller that can influence and inspire across an organisation. This would be managing up (C-suite), across and down. What are we doing? Why does it matter to you and the business? Why is it important and/or exciting to be a part of?
Ability to build trust and strong relationships. You need to be able to drive a significant amount of change - thinking, ways of working etc… You have to establish and build that trust to forge meaningful relationships to understand, influence and drive decisions through to execution.
Resilience. Influencing, driving change and problem-solving isn’t easy. Not only do you need to understand where the business is at, how it runs and then how to drive positive change and improvement; but how to position it and get the support and buy-in needed. You will have a diverse range of senior stakeholders to manage and guide through those changes and ideas.
It’s a big role. It’s meaty and unique and they don’t come around often. If this sounds interesting and worth exploring, apply and say hi!
