The successful candidate will be provided with comprehensive training & support. There is also the opportunity to obtain a certificate in ophthalmic medical assisting.
About the Role
The role of Ophthalmic Technician / Assistant forms a vital part of the patient care process through the provision of support and education to patients in a friendly, polite and professional manner. It provides essential support to Doctors and Optometrists by performing tests and preparing patients for consultations.
Specific Tasks Include
- Patient screening such as: Visual Field Tests, OCT imaging, Visual Acuity and Intraocular Pressure Testing
- Medical history taking
- Preparing patients for Intravitreal Injections and other minor procedures
- Theatre bookings
- Restocking consult and procedure rooms
- Assisting with general office duties
- Answering patient telephone enquiries
- Ensuring a positive experience for patients
About you
Preference will be given to candidates with ophthalmology experience. However, applications will be welcome from people who have experience in a medical or nursing environment with a sound knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology.
Other key skills and personal attributes essential for success in the role include:
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, enabling quick rapport with patients
- A calm, friendly and professional demeanour
- Good computer literacy and organisational skills, with experience in the Genie software package highly desirable
- Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment
The position is best suited to a person with a strong team work ethic, can-do attitude and superior attention to detail.
