In representing Peninsula Health, we expect all employees and volunteers to reflect our values: Be the Best, Be a Role Model, Be Open and Honest, Be Compassionate and Respectful and Be Collaborative. We are One Peninsula Health.

What You Will Be Doing

The Family Violence Senior Practitioner (AUFV) will be a part of the wider Family Violence Program at Peninsula Health. The role works within the state-funded Safety and Support Hubs, otherwise known as The Orange Door (TOD)

The Senior Practitioner position works collaboratively as part of an integrated team, specialising in working with AUFV who are predominantly men, along with other Family Violence specialists to respond to the needs of children, young people, and families experiencing Family Violence and vulnerability. The Senior Practitioner works directly with AUFV to provide information, advice, and an initial assessment with a focus on risk assessment, safety planning and referral. The Senior Practitioner also provides support and secondary consultation to practitioners within the team and actively participates in creating an inclusive team culture.

The Senior Practitioner role includes performing ‘extended duties’ which includes some of the tasks and responsibilities that are usually completed by the Integrated Team Leader during their daily operations. Senior Practitioners are also expected to manage complex, high-risk cases and provide mentoring to the team by demonstrating best practice in all activities.

The position reports operationally to an Integrated Team Leader on a day-to-day basis and receives line management from a Peninsula Health Team Leader

The Orange Door brings together different workforces and practices to create an integrated team and a consolidated intake point in each Hub area to provide support for;

• Women, children and young people and families experiencing Family Violence
• People who use violence
• Families in need of support with the care, development, and well-being of children

This is achieved by drawing on expertise of Public Health and Community Based Organisations (including Peninsula Health) to receive and respond to referrals from:

• Police referrals for women and children who are victims of Family Violence
• Police referrals for perpetrators of Family Violence
• Child wellbeing referrals
• Third party organisations
• Clients who can self-refer by contacting The Orange Door directly

The Orange Door have mobilised the service system to work with women, children and families to support their safety and wellbeing. One of the roles of the Hubs is to provide a central point of intake, where referrals are triaged by a team of professional staff representing the Family Violence sector. The Hubs work directly with AUFV onsite, via phone and out-posting at partner organisations. A key function of this role is to assess the risk posed by AUFV and determine the appropriate service provision, with a focus on referrals to Family Violence prevention programs i.e. Men’s Behaviour Change Programs, Men’s Case management, and other services as identified to address psychosocial needs.
