About you:
You are a qualified Orthodontist (Senior) with demonstrated skill and ability in all aspects of specialist orthodontic treatment including diagnosis and specialist orthodontic treatment planning for all malocclusions including cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomaly cases. You have high-level knowledge of all aspects of the contemporary practice of orthodontics including the co-ordination, planning, and treatment of cleft lip/palate cases, craniofacial anomaly cases, and orthognathic surgery cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach to the management of these cases.
Your opportunity:
To manage the Cairns and Hinterland Oral Health Services by providing diagnosis and treatment planning of complex malocclusions and comprehensive specialist orthodontic management and treatment to eligible clients, and advice on orthodontic case selection and treatment planning to dentists across fixed and mobile facilities. The incumbent is required to act with a substantial degree of professional independence in meeting the objectives of the position. The Snr Specialist Orthodontist reports to the Oral Health Director Cairns for operational, procedural and policy matters. There are no subordinates to this position, although the Dental Specialist works closely with Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants as well as other staff categories and is responsible for leadership in the Oral Health Team setting.
Your role:
- Manage the Cairns and Hinterland Oral Health Orthodontic Service by providing diagnosis and treatment planning of complex malocclusions and comprehensive specialist orthodontic management and treatment to eligible clients.
- Provide professional leadership, teaching, support, and continuing professional development in orthodontics to all Oral Health staff within both the CHHS and other HHS districts.
- Facilitate and contribute to the multi-disciplinary team management of eligible clients with complex treatment requirements, including orthognathic surgery or management of clients with cleft lip and/or palate and other cranio-facial anomalies.
- Participate in effective management of the Wait Lists by collecting and analysing quality data and making appropriate recommendations and courses of action.
