About the Role

This is a Permanent Full-Time position at 76 hour per fortnight within the Orthotic and Prosthetic unit.

In this clinical position you will be responsible for the Orthotic management of children with a diverse range of orthopaedic and neurological conditions. There is a high proportion of custom work which is well supported by a team of competent and capable technicians. In addition, you will work closely with the Orthopaedic surgical team, rotating through the plaster clinic up to half of each week. The department offers a supportive learning environment, with great opportunities to advance clinical experience.

Classification for this position with range from CO7-CP2, Grade 1 Year 1 to Grade 1 Year 5 (FTE base salary $69,206 to $84,188 per annum, plus superannuation).

What you'll achieve:

  • Deliver Orthotic care to inpatients and outpatients of The Royal Children's Hospital according to the protocols of the Orthotic Department
  • Participate in professional development activities to ensure that best clinical practice is maintained.
  • Provide child centred, family focused care through partnership with parents/ families.
  • Possess well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Actively contribute. as an individual and as a member of a team, to the continuous improvement of health care quality and patient safety

Your skills and experience:

  • Master of Clinical Prosthetics & Orthotics or Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics or equivalent
  • Evidence of eligibility for membership to AOPA
  • Evidence of compliance with AOPA Continuing Professional Development requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to work and contribute as part of a team.

About Orthotist Prosthetist department


The department provides orthoses (braces/supportive devices) and prostheses (artificial limbs) to children and adolescents who have acute and/or chronic conditions requiring treatment. Orthotist Prosthetists are skilled in the treatment of a wide range of neuromuscular-skeletal conditions, as well as providing treatment post surgically, for fracture management and positional plagiocephaly. We liaise with other Allied Health professionals and medical staff based either in the hospital or community centres to provide optimal treatment plans using multidisciplinary management. Our service provides both in-patient and out-patient care through an appointment-based system.
