Miles Franklin Out of School Hours Care - MFOSHC

About MFOSHC

MFOSHC is a not for profit Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) organisation run by the Miles Franklin P&C Association Inc, providing family support through education and care for the school and the community. We offer a high standard of education and care to children and families through respectful and responsive interactions and strong relationships in a safe and inclusive environment.

The Role

The MFOSHC Centre Director will work closely with the P&C Operations Manager to manage the MFOSHC Centre and its operations.  The Centre Director will lead a team of committed staff including our Assistant Director, Educational Leader, experienced Team Leaders, and Educators, in the delivery of an education and care-based program for children attending Miles Franklin Primary School.  For a copy of the Duty Statement please email ***************@outlook.com

You will ideally have experience in a similar role and have a degree/diploma in a relevant field and understand your role and responsibilities as Director and Nominated Supervisor, however, if you are currently in a 2IC role and want to take the next step forward, our Centre provides a framework for support for you to achieve this career opportunity. 

The successful candidate will have access to professional development, non-contact hours and support to undertake the responsibilities and key requirements of the role.

You will join a team of dedicated, passionate, welcoming, and fun-loving people who support each other to make a real difference in the lives of the children in the centre.  Our Centre is licenced for 120 places.

Selection Criteria

The suitable candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Director in an OSHC or Long Day Care setting (highly desirable) or currently in a 2IC / Assistant Director role and wanting to develop your career.
  • ACECQA approved qualifications as a 1st or 2nd qualified in an OSHC environment.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the My Time Our Place framework, experience programming for OSHC or long day care sessions, and a strong understanding of learning and support needs of school aged children is an advantage for this role. 
  • Knowledge of the OSHC Legislative and Regulatory requirements, a commitment to ensuring quality and ability to drive improvement through the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Capability to lead the team in a positive way through Assessment and Rating.
  • Proven ability in managing and working as part of a team including, leading and motivating staff, provision of staff training, organising staff rosters and keeping up to date records. 
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with the Miles Franklin Primary school staff, community and P&C Association and use networks to create strong support for the centre.
  • Confidence, initiative, and resilience to be able to manage situations with staff and parents.
  • Strong administrative skills, time management and organisational ability.

This position would suit a candidate who is outgoing, confident, well organised, excellent face to face communication skills, able to work independently and as a member of a large team and who can engage with children in an authentic and positive way. 

Essential requirements for this position are:

  • Current Working with Vulnerable Peoples card
  • A current first-aid certificate (First Aid training and Provide an emergency first aid response in an education & care setting) – or be willing to attend training on commencement.
  • The ability to interact and communicate well with children/ staff and build positive relationships with families.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to work with and contribute to a team.

Hours

This role is ideally a Permanent Full-Time position, 38 hours a week but can be flexible as a permanent part-time role if required.  Shutdown period is minimum 2 weeks at the beginning of the Dec/Jan holidays. The Director is a support to the School Holiday Program and therefore required to have availability in school holidays.

The successful applicant will be available to work Monday to Friday. Core hours of the Centre are Before School Care (7.30am-9.30am) and After School Care (2.00pm-6.00pm). Availability for Staff meetings and training are also a requirement for this position.  There may be occasional requirement to work split shifts.

Salary above the Children’s Services Award 2010 – level 6.  $40 - $45 per hour. Over award component will be considered based on candidates experience and qualifications.

MFOSHC is located at Miles Franklin Primary School in Alderman Street Evatt ACT and is operated by the Miles Franklin P&C Association.
