The Role
As a Packaging Technologist within the R&D Team, you will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering packaging aspects of innovation and cost-saving projects. Reporting directly to the Senior R&D Manager, you will collaborate closely with the Meals & Beverage Business Team. Your responsibilities include developing, approving, and commercialising packaging for current and future innovations, coordinating trials, maintaining packaging systems, and partnering with vendors. You will also provide technical support for supply chain initiatives, troubleshoot manufacturing issues. Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are essential for success in this role.
- Lead packaging aspects of innovation and cost-saving projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Develop, approve, and commercialise packaging for current and future innovations, ensuring trials are documented and systems updated.
- Support supply chain initiatives and partner with the Shepparton Plant to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and minimise production disruptions.
- Manage a team, prioritising work and projects, and ensuring accuracy and availability of packaging specifications and product information.
- Maintain a safe working environment through participation in workplace safety and provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to team members.
Skills & Experience
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Degree qualification in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Food Science preferred.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in R&D, Food Technology, QA, or Supply Chain, particularly with thermally processed products and packaging.
- Technical proficiency in packaging technology and materials, including experience with label development software, SAP, and other systems.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS) and plant safety requirements.
- Demonstrated creativity and passion for food packaging and sustainability, with a track record of delivering valuable outcomes.
