Join our Procurement team at Inghams at Packaging Technologist and grow your career in a market leading poultry business working for an iconic FMCG brand!

This is a pivotal role at Inghams that will see you working with and supporting Product Development, Marketing, Project Management, Procurement, Quality Assurance and our Operations teams.

In this role you will drive and deliver our sustainability commitments for our customers and consumers, taking a hands-on approach steering change and leading the way in reaching our cost saving, continuous improvement and sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Partner with cross functional teams, customers and suppliers to identify sustainable packaging solutions that solve consumer problems and meet current sustainability targets
  • Research and validate innovative packaging formats through packaging development principals to execute packaging projects from concept to launch
  • Apply APCO and ARL guidelines across all projects
  • Develop and maintain packaging specifications that meet food contact and recycling certifications across Branded and Private Label SKUs
  • Collaborate with Product Development team by entering relevant specification data into our customer portals
  • Be the subject matter expert on packaging formats, materials and converting processes
  • Lead packaging optimisation and cost saving projects for across all packaging formats
  • Manage technical aspects of artwork in partnership with Design Agencies, Operations and Suppliers
  • Develop business cases for packaging improvement projects that include technical, commercial and sustainability considerations
  • Contribute to value chain optimisation projects with technical packaging expertise and insights
  • Drive harmonisation and optimization of our products packaging considering regulatory contexts and sustainability criteria
  • Build relationships with packaging providers along the packaging value chain; develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of packaging industry trends
  • Run trials to check packaging for suitability and testing for performance under various conditions
  • Attend initial production runs at packaging suppliers' sites to approve artwork on site and define printing standard (min, standard and max colour variations)
  • Understand and build supplier's capabilities knowledge "bank" as well as Inghams Packaging equipment capabilities

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Engineering or equivalent experience in packaging design and development
  • Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge in sustainable packaging design/manufacturing in FMCG sector, particularly plastic and flexibles packaging
  • Experience in food manufacturing industry preferred
  • Technical knowledge on packaging development with a solution focused mindset
  • Strong understanding of packaging development, stage-gate process, and project management skills
  • Knowledge of packaging technologies, packaging specification design and optimisation
  • A natural collaborator who enjoys being part of a dynamic team
  • Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management
  • Experience in a customer facing role
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge, experience, and passion for Sustainability
  • Regulatory environment experience - Packaging Covenant and Food Standards Code knowledge is advantageous
  • Data driven with strong analytical skills to provide recommendations on initiatives
