Job description

SMYL Community Services, a registered charity and leading education and training provider, is inviting applications from experienced community workers for delivery of the ParentsNext programme.  

ParentsNext is a pre-employment programme funded by the Commonwealth Government.  ParentsNext assists parents of young children to identify their education and employment goals, develop a pathway to achieve their goals and links them to activities and services in the local community.

The ideal candidate will be confident in delivering training and group sessions where required and possess a current Trainer and Assessor Qualification.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • High level of knowledge of education and/or vocational skills training.  
  • High level of knowledge of childcare services.
  • High level of knowledge of work-readiness and job search practices.
  • The ability to mentor, motivate and inspire parents individually and in a group setting.
  • The ability to build meaningful relationships with participants, community organisations and training providers.
  • The ability to advocate on behalf of parents to referral services.
  • The capacity to seek out and implement opportunities for participants.
  • The capacity to deliver a quality service to participants across multiple sites.
  • A good understanding of your local community in particular a knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues facing families in the region.
  • Demonstrated awareness of contemporary issues facing Aboriginal people.
  • Working With Children and National Police Checks (or able to obtain) essential.
  • Current drivers licence essential.

The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of or skills in:

  • Proven ability to meet set performance targets and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Experience working in government funded programme environment.
  • Knowledge and application of contemporary EEO, OS&H, anti-discrimination and privacy issues.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Qualifications in Community, Family or Children’s services preferred.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - TAE40116 or equivalent preferred.
