About the Role

The Parenting Support Worker will work within the recently formed Southeast FDV Healing Service. 

The Alliance brings together a highly skilled and experienced group of local service providers. They are all like-minded in their approach to FDV and how the service needs to fit into the Armadale community. With a proven history of addressing the needs of people at risk of or experiencing FDV, the partners all have a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive focus.

The Alliance will provide programs for victims/survivors and children, perpetrators of violence, and will proactively engage in collaborative initiatives to tackle the underlying drivers of FDV.

The Position

We are currently recruiting for a max term 0.8FTE Child Health Nurse (Parenting Support Worker) based at the Armadale FDV Service. 

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of with multiple service providers involved. Business days of work are Monday to Thursday.

Our interdisciplinary team supports families to address various concerns including sleep and settling, feeding and nutrition, child development and behaviour, perinatal and infant mental health, parent-child relationships, and adjustment to parenting. This is done in a variety of settings such as parenting education workshops, parenting playtime groups, and one to one consultations. 

Duties

  • Work collaboratively in a partnership model with families to identify their strengths and meet their individual parenting and health needs.
  • Provide comprehensive evidence-based information relating to early years parenting, child development and family health and well-being.
  • Provide access and equity of services for families with diverse backgrounds including gender, culture, and disability.
  • Collaborate with parents in developing care plans with small achievable steps to reach their goals.
  • Link families with appropriate community and Ngala resources.
  • Provide evidence-based information relating to child development and parent-child relationships.

About You

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Qualifications in Child Health Nursing and current registration with AHPRA.
  • Significant recent postgraduate nursing experience in the area of specialty with demonstrated advanced knowledge and skill with a strength-based approach to practice.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Aboriginal families and communities.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral with a strong focus on listening, strength- based approach and skills in report writing.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills showing initiative, creativity and flexibility.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with families with babies and young children with an understanding of family dynamics and their effects on young children.
  • Demonstrated capacity to actively participate within an interdisciplinary team.

Well-developed knowledge base of:

  • Child health and development;
  • Early years and brain development research findings;
  • Perinatal and infant mental health;
  • Trauma Informed Care;
  • Family and Domestic Violence;
  • Issues impacting on fathers;
  • Sleep and nutrition for families, babies and young children;
  • Breast feeding and lactation.

If successful, you will need to possess a current WA driver's licence (LR class preferred), Working with Childrens Check, and satisfactory National Police Clearance obtained within six months.

It is essential that you meet the above criteria and are permitted to work and remain in Australia with no limitations to be considered.
