The Opportunity

We are seeking candidates who can work well within a team and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to join our Perth Central Transport team as Compliance Officer’s.

This role would suit a highly organised and skilled communicator – you will engage with property owners and stakeholders on a regular basis to obtain, provide and assist with parking administration and compliance related matters. You will be dedicated to maintaining compliance and creating awareness on the relevant licensing rules and regulations of all non-residential parking provided in central Perth.

As part of a highly effective small team, you will undertake general and targeted education and compliance activities and investigations to ensure that properties are correctly licensed, licence fees paid, and parking is being used in accordance with all legislative obligations, policies, conditions, and planning approvals. You will determine appropriate action for identified non-compliance, including education, cautions, infringements, and other sanctions. Your exceptional communications skills, eye for detail, and ability to influence and promote a positive image as a representative of the Department will be key to success in this role.

Based at our centrally located office at 140 William Street, Perth you will be part of our high performing team who contribute to an accessible, safe, and secure transport system.

This is a fixed term opportunity available for 12 months, with a possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next 24 months date of first appointment across the Department of Transport. 

About you

  • Communicate effectively with a range of licence holders and stakeholders to influence positive behaviour and increase awareness of compliance and legislative requirements.
  • Demonstrate capacity to work independently and prioritise work to meet targets.
  • Apply relevant licensing requirements when reviewing applications for new parking licenses or variations to existing licences.
  • Work effectively with licence holders providing evidence, feedback, and recommendations to assist them achieve or maintain licensing compliance.
  • Undertake investigations of a complex nature where there is suspected non-compliance with the Perth Parking Management Act and Regulations (1999) and Perth Parking Policy, licence conditions and parking-related planning approval conditions.
  • Determine appropriate actions and/or penalties for breaches.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Represent the Department in legal proceedings, including appearances in court.

  • (SC1) Experience in conducting compliance investigations pertaining to non-compliance of legislative and regulatory provisions.
  • (SC2) Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulation, and policy provisions.
  • (SC5) Sound negotiation and interpersonal skills, with proven experience in dealing with difficult customers.
  1. Your application must contain the complete names and contact information of two (2) referees who can provide feedback on the applicant's capacity to meet all the Essential Work-Related Requirements. At least one of the referees should be the applicant's immediate (most recent) supervisor/manager unless there are exceptional circumstances.
