About us:
Following our recent merger, we've established the Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service. Within this framework, the Suicide PreventionPeer Worker role plays a crucial part in our Towards Zero Suicide Prevention Program, which includes the Suicide Prevention Outreach Team and the Peer-Led Safe Haven Drop-in Centre
The peer work position will draw on their personal lived experience of suicide to provide specialist person centred care to people at risk of suicide and connect people to support, which may include psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery/wellness planning and collaborative identification of community supports.
The Suicide PreventionPeer Worker will work in partnership with clinicians either through Suicide Prevention Outreach Teams or if necessary Safe Haven to provide trauma-informed and recovery-oriented support for people who are in crisis.
While the primary location for this role is Charlestown, there will be occasions, with prior notice, when our Peer Worker will provide support to Safe Haven in Newcastle.

This role will see our ideal candidate provide personalised care and support to individuals, caregivers, and families, focusing on their needs and recovery.
You will provide direct assistance, whether in person or through virtual means, to those grappling with suicidal thoughts or emotional distress.
You will identify consumers in need of ongoing support and link to relevant services in the community as part of the collaborative care plan.

Requirements:
- Attainment of the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or successful completion of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer) within 18 months of commencing position, including completion of CHCCCS003: Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide.
- Eligible to drive in NSW and willingness to travel for work purposes
