Who are we?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

 We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people's health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.

 About the role

The People and Culture Advisor with a focus on Industrial Relations at Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) plays a crucial role in fostering positive employee relations, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations, and resolving workplace disputes effectively. This position requires a deep understanding of industry dynamics, labor regulations, and the ability to navigate complex employee relations issues within a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all industrial relations matters within the DDHS.
  • Advise management on strategies for preventing and resolving disputes, grievances, and conflicts in accordance with healthcare industry standards.
  • Work with Clinic Managers / Team Leaders to ensure the effective implementation and management of Human Resources policies, practices, and procedures that provide an optimal working environment and promote a culture of excellence and performance.
  • Support and guide Managers / Team Leaders to undertake consistent and appropriate performance management processes to promote a high-performance culture and manage underperformance.
  • Adopting an advisory approach, provide HR strategic, advisory and operational support to managers and employees across the employment life cycle including:
  • Oversee/drive the recruitment process, supporting people leaders to proactively recruit and appoint high-caliber staff with a good fit, with a focus on candidate experience.
  • Support the people leaders and employees in the interpretation and adherence to the relevant industrial instrument/s, DDHS policies, procedures and processes, and best practice. Ensure all compliance requirements are met during onboarding and maintained for all staff members.
  • Manage the contracting process, including employment agreements, individual flexibility agreements, employment variations, employee leave, remuneration and other related employment terms and conditions not less than more other ad hoc high HR Admin Duties

To be successful you will need:

  • Diploma, or bachelor's degree in human resources, Industrial Relations, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Proven experience (2 - 3 years) in a similar role with a focus on industrial relations within the healthcare sector.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare industry dynamics, including regulatory frameworks and labor laws.
  • Strong negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with experience handling complex employee relations issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with professionals at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions to support effective industrial relations strategies.
  • Certification in Industrial Relations, HR management, or Healthcare Administration (e.g., AHRI membership, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, CHHR) is advantageous.

 What we offer:

  • 6 weeks annual leave per annum
  • 5 days paid leave during our end of year shut down period (in addition to annual leave).
