Permanency Support Program - Caseworker
Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre is accredited as an Aboriginal Out-of-Home Care Service. Our Out-of-Home Care service is located in Gunnedah and covers the New England Region including Gunnedah, Quirindi, Tamworth, Narrabri, Moree and neighbouring towns. We are currently recruiting for caseworkers in Gunnedah, Narrabri and Tamworth.
We are inviting applicants from people wishing to apply for the role of PSP Caseworker within the Out of Home Care Team. This position is a full time position working 37.5hrs over 5 days per week. At times you will be required to work on weekends and participate on the on-call roster.
The role is responsible for providing casework support for children and young people in Foster Care. Applicants will need experience working with children, young people, families and carers in Foster Care or another related area.
You will be joining a dedicated team who are committed to providing the best possible support to children, young people, families and their carers who are in the program.
The position will require a driver’s license, the ability to travel, stay overnight, hours of work outside of 8:30am, to 4:30pm, weekend and participate on the on-call roster.
This is an Aboriginal identified position, however Non - Aboriginal applicants are encouraged to apply if they have previous experience working in the Child Protection sector.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Provide efficient and effective case management within the Permanency Support Program
- Development and implementation of case plans with children/ young people, their families and their carers.
- Assessment of families, children and young people in placements to ensure their needs are being met.
- Liaise with a range of service providers to support needs of children and young people in the Permanency Support Program.
- Actively participate in local and sector networks, advocacy and consultation relevant to the program.
Essential Selection Criteria
- Certificate IV in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology or other Human Services related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years working with children and families within the child protection sector.
- Demonstrated experience working with families with complex issues.
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues with the capacity to identify risk levels and plan support interventions accordingly.
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection framework and legislation and mandatory reporting.
- Ability to work out of hours and be available to support staff outside of hours.
Desirable
- Be of Aboriginal descent and demonstrate an understanding of why this is relevant to the role or your cultural understanding and experience working in the Child Protection Sector.
This position is subject to applicants having a current Working With Children Check, Criminal Record Check clearances and a current unrestricted NSW Drivers license.
