The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
About the Division
The Policy, Strategy and Performance (PSP) group supports the department to maintain its intensive focus on delivery, performance and engagement in order to achieve the Education State reform agenda and the department's strategic intent. The group aligns policy leadership with strategy, planning, governance and performance to enable evidence-informed decisions that drive current and future system-wide reforms and improve outcomes for all Victorians.
The Education Policy and Reform Division drives delivery of school reform through strategic advice and policy projects that draw on range generalist policy skillsets.
About the Role
The Policy Adviser will contribute to strategic projects at every stage of the policy cycle, including research, analysis, development of options, preparation of reports and advice, project planning and support for implementation.
The role requires:
the ability to deal with complex concepts and analytical challenges comfortably and express these concepts through well-developed written communication.
policy skills to undertake policy analysis focused on the system levers that drive quality school-based education.
effective relationship building, influencing and collaboration skills to ensure policy recommendations are informed by diverse perspectives and are supported by our key partners.
the ability to use project management concepts to manage deliverables and risks, and adjust to shifting priorities while taking initiative and accountability for one's own work.
use of written, verbal and visual language to convey and obtain information, insights and ideas that is compelling, persuasive and appropriate to the audience.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Desirable: a bachelor's degree in education, public policy or a relevant discipline
