Located in Melbourne, Australian Dairy Farmers Limited (ADF) is a not-for-profit organisation which provides a national voice for Australia's dairy farmers, representing their interests to governments and the community on a broad range of issues.
ADF’s mission is to provide strong leadership and representation to allow for the continued growth of internationally competitive, innovative and sustainable dairy farm businesses. The ADF also carries out work on behalf of the Australian Dairy Industry Council (ADIC) when issues cover whole of industry impact.
The Policy Manager is responsible for leading the ADF’s policy functions and strategy in this area to ensure maximum representation of its members through policy, advocacy and delivery of high-quality outcomes for the dairy industry.
The Policy Manager will be a key contributor in supporting the CEO to drive a culture that is outcome focused and fosters collaboration amongst staff, management, policy council and committee members, board members, and industry stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the strategic thinking and development of policy and advocacy for the ADF and the dairy industry through:
- strategic analysis of the current and longer-term environments for the ADF and the dairy industry, including identifying key issues, drivers and risks
- consultation with stakeholders to gain views on industry needs and potential strategies
- researching and developing policy with the support of key industry subject matter experts, such as Dairy Australia
- managing ADF policy development frameworks, including ADF National Council, Policy Advisory Groups, Taskforces and Committees
- monitoring and providing feedback on the progress of strategies and policies
- management of project-based programs to achieve organisational/industry objectives
Skills and Competencies:
- Demonstrated track record of leading and developing high level strategies in partnership with key stakeholders that make a tangible difference
- Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of policies across diverse areas involving key stakeholders and government representation
- An understanding of the Australian political system and demonstrated ability to leverage positive outcomes through political channels
- Proven success in achieving strategic priorities across diverse organisations
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and exert influence at business, industry and government levels
- Ability to think and act strategically and creatively
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and motivate and inspire staff
- Ability to network into primary production, agricultural, and the Australian rural sector
- Ability to work collaboratively and develop influential representation, with proven ability to consult, influence, and work constructively with a range of stakeholders, including the media and industry decision-makers
- Demonstrated ability to critically think and analyse and ability to discern emerging issues
- Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and complex issues.
Agriculture experience preferred. Dairy industry experience is desirable but not essential.
Whilst Melbourne is the preferred location, we can be negotiable for the right skills and experience.
