About the role:

The Manager, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Policy will support the design and implementation of priority reforms to Victorian Alcohol and Other drug (AOD) system where, as Victorians, we are supported to make decisions in relation to AOD use that help us lead a life we value.  The role will lead a team to support short to long term reform strategy, undertake research and generate insights, policy development, briefing on reform and policy options, and contribute to cross government strategic AOD-related projects and initiatives.

To be successful in the role you will demonstrate sound leadership and people management skills, as well as an ability to influence others to improve outcomes for Victorians. You will be a high performing team member with strong strategy and/or policy development and systems thinking skills; complemented by superior communication, problem solving, and project management capabilities. You will also have experience in undertaking analysis and presentation of data to inform government decision making, along with the ability to work flexibly to respond to a range of emerging issues and evolving priorities.

You will be able to build (or may have existing) strong relationships with AOD stakeholders and develop options and creative, implementable recommendations, in partnership with the sector. You will also have the ability to work within and understand highly complex health systems and government processes, ideally having done so in AOD and/or related social policy or public health portfolios. People with lived and living experience are encouraged to apply.

About us:

At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.

How you'll make a difference:

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • A tertiary qualification in fields related to public policy, health administration or business management is highly desirable.
  • A sound understanding of the Victorian AOD system, and knowledge of the department and its operating processes and information systems is required. People with lived and living experience are encouraged to apply.
