An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join our team.

About the role:

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs and Public Policy, you will play a pivotal role in leveraging the collective knowledge within ACS' membership base to position ACS as the trusted advisor to Government, Business, and Academia on matters related to technology, innovation, and the skills essential for a thriving IT profession. 

Primary responsibilities:

Your responsibilities include cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, identifying policy gaps, crafting solutions, and modelling behaviours that foster a high-performing and engaged culture.

Government Relations:

  • Engage with all levels of government to advocate ACS policies and enhance awareness of the ICT sector in Australia.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management on building ACS's relationships with key MPs/Senators for the benefit of the industry and its members.
  • Manage events involving key political figures to ensure coordination, relevance, and impact, including the promotion and launch of key ACS publications.

Policy Advice:

  • Coordinate the development of ACS policy documents through the National Public Policy Reference Committee.
  • Launch approved ACS policy documents to government stakeholders and other relevant parties.

Operational Excellence:

  • Utilise available technologies and systems to enhance business operations, streamline processes, and drive efficiency.
  • Identify and lead initiatives aimed at improving operational effectiveness and embracing organizational change.
  • Ensure compliance with internal, industry, and client quality standards, and proactively identify areas for enhancement.

About you

To be successful in your application it is expected you will possess the following

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Postgraduate qualifications in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or Communications.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working in or with the Federal government.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking to diverse audiences, including ICT management and technical personnel.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and workload prioritisation.
  • Analytical skills to research issues, analyse data, and inform policy development.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive matters diplomatically, and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Proficiency in word processing, data entry, and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and experience with CRM systems.
